So... exactly how did this happen?

How does a girl with an English degree end up running her own design shop? Quite fortuitously—a very happy accident, indeed!

My first "real" job after graduating from Drake University was as an instructional designer at Applebee's corporate in Kansas City. After a few years, it was obvious that I was much more drawn to the visual aspect of the materials vs. the content—BIG surprise to this previously
art-phobic girl. This realization occurred in tandem with a providential opportunity to go independent to focus on the visual. That was almost 19 years ago and Applebee's is still a client... along with a host of awesome, varied others via referrals stemming from that initial connection.

Establishing and maintaining long-term client relationships has been a natural by-product
of my passion: providing beautifully usable products when promised for a fair price.

What I use

Adobe Creative Suite

       •  Illustrator

       •  Photoshop

       •  InDesign

       •  Acrobat Pro

       •  Muse

       •  Dreamweaver

Microsoft Office 2016

       •  Word

       •  PowerPoint

       •  Excel

So... exactly what do I do?

The very short answer: I make printed and electronic stuff look pretty. I partner with clients to create or refine the look—and sometimes content—of their materials. I have an eagle eye for detail and an insatiable hunger for simplicity. (And thanks to that English degree, I'm acutely homonym-savvy and there'll be no dangling of participles in these parts.)  Specifically:

Marketing materials: logos, business cards, letterhead, brochures, sales folders,
presentations, maps, trade show booths, billboards, ads, menus, POP, web sites

Training materials: manuals, job aids, charts, diagrams, procedural photography,
presentations, templates, logos, CD/DVD labels+case covers

 Editing+proofing: text and photos

*CPO = Chief Prettification Officer. If you run your own shop, you might as well have some fun with the title.
